How to get AI to recommend your plumbing business

AI names the plumbers it can confirm are open, nearby and trusted for the job in the question. Say plainly on your site and listings that you take emergency calls, which towns you cover and what each repair costs, then collect reviews on the directories AI cites for plumbers.

People ask an AI tool for a plumber when water is on the floor. The answer they get names a few companies, and the first one usually gets the call. Being one of those names is the whole game.

What customers ask AI

These come from the panel NamedTest uses for plumbers. Many are urgent or about price, and for those the companies AI names tend to be the ones whose pages answer "can you come today" and "what will it cost" without a phone call.

Urgent
I need an emergency plumber in your city right now. Who should I call?
My basement is flooding in your neighborhood. Which plumber can come today?
Price
How much does drain cleaning cost in your city, and which plumbers charge fair prices?
Who is the most affordable plumber near your neighborhood?
Trust and reviews
Who is the most trusted plumber in your city?
Which plumbers in your city have the best reviews?
A specific service
Which plumbing company in your city is best for drain cleaning?
I need drain cleaning in your neighborhood. Which local plumber do you recommend?

What AI cited in St. Louis

In October 2026, we asked 10 questions from this panel about St. Louis on Perplexity, Gemini (model knowledge) and ChatGPT. The 30 answers named 49 different plumbers, and the 6 named most held 47% of all mentions.

20 answers cited sources. Apart from the named plumbers' own websites, the sites they cited most were these, with the number of answers citing each:

  1. homeadvisor.com (6)
  2. angi.com (5)
  3. bestprosintown.com (4)
  4. mrrooter.com (4)
  5. aaastl.com (3)
  6. bbb.org (3)
  7. forbes.com (3)

Of the 6 named most, 5 were named by every tool we asked, 4 had their own website among the cited sources, and AI gave a website for 6. Among them, 5 came up for urgent questions and 5 for questions about trust and reviews.

For a plumber, read that list as a sign-up sheet. Every home service marketplace or review site on it is a place AI went to find plumbers. If you are not listed there, a competitor's listing is doing that work for them.

What to fix, in order

  1. Build an emergency service page

Burst pipes, sewer backups and dead water heaters are where AI gets asked for a name right now. Give emergency work its own page with your hours spelled out, the towns you reach fastest and a phone number at the top. If you charge a different rate after hours, say so. A vague "24/7" badge in an image means nothing to a crawler.

  2. Write one page per service you want calls for

Our plumbing questions ask about these services by name, so each deserves a page that says what you do and roughly what it costs:

    • drain cleaning
    • water heater repair
    • water heater installation
    • sewer line repair
    • leak detection
    • toilet repair
    • sump pump installation
    • garbage disposal repair
    • frozen pipe repair
    • repiping

Name the town in the title of each page, and add a short question and answer section with the things customers ask on the phone.

  3. Fix your Google Business Profile categories

Set Plumber as your main category and add the secondary ones you really do, such as drainage service or water heater installation. Add every service with a line of description, set your service area, and keep your hours current over holidays. Google ranks local results partly on how complete and relevant this profile is.

  4. Get listed where homeowners compare plumbers

Claim your free listings on the home service sites and review sites AI cites for your city, with the same name, address and phone as your profile. Add your license number where the site allows it. Licensed and insured is a question customers ask AI word for word.

  5. Let AI crawlers read your site

Plumbing sites built on page builders often ship with plugins that block unknown bots. Run your site through the AI crawler checker, then add Plumber markup with the schema generator so your name, phone and service area are machine readable.

  6. Ask for reviews that mention the job

A review that says "fixed our sump pump in Florissant the same afternoon" answers three AI questions at once: the service, the town and the speed. Send the review link by text right after the job, while the basement is still dry. Never offer a discount for it.

  7. Make your Facebook and Instagram match your Google listing

Muse is Meta's new AI agent (Meta's page on Muse). Meta has not published what it reads about local businesses, and nobody can promise it sends plumbing calls. Still, Meta's assistant may lean on its own apps, so check the shop's Facebook Page and its Instagram business account against your Google Business Profile and website: same company name, street address, phone number, opening hours, web link and list of services. A stale emergency number on Facebook takes ten minutes to fix.

Questions plumbers ask us

Why does AI keep naming national chains instead of local plumbers?

National brands often have a page for every city, many reviews and listings on most directories, so AI finds them easily. A local shop closes the gap with the same basics on a smaller scale: a page per service and town, a complete Google Business Profile and listings on the directories AI cites for plumbers.

Does answering the phone at night help me get named for emergency questions?

Only if the web says so. AI cannot call you to test it. State 24 hour or after hours service in your Business Profile hours, on an emergency service page and in your directory listings, and keep it true.

Should I list my prices if AI is asked about cost?

A price range or a flat service call fee helps. Customers ask AI what drain cleaning or a water heater costs, and a page that states a range gives the answer something to quote. You can still quote each job in person.

Do I need a separate page for every suburb I serve?

Not every suburb, but the ones you want calls from. A page per town that names the town, the work you do there and a real job or review from it reads far better to AI than a long list of town names in the footer.
